Adult Classes

Our adult sewing classes are designed to help you build the skills you need to tackle a wide variety of projects with ease. Whether your goal is to create your own clothing, make alterations, or household items, or just sew for fun.

We are dedicated to helping you succeed and will work with you every step of the way to ensure you feel confident and comfortable behind the machine. We’ve got you covered with sewing machines and equipment.

We recommend starting with our Learn To Sew Series and advancing into the Beginner Garment or Learn to Quilt Series classes. Learn more about our sewing classes for adults below and sign up for the one that best fits your skill level and goals.

Learn To Sew I:

This class is for the true beginner. Learn how to wind a bobbin, thread your machine, change needles, select fabrics, cutting and pinning techniques, consistent seam allowances, and more! Students will make a simple four-square pillow as part of their sewing instruction.

Once you complete Learn To Sew I, stitch your way into sewing mastery in Learn To Sew II!

LEARN TO SEW II:

Once you complete LTS I, you’re ready for more! Learn To Sew II will introduce you to commercial patterns. You will learn how to read and interpret written instructions along with illustrations. You will learn about cutting layouts and continue adding to your sewing technique know-how. We will make a simple lined tote bag together in class.

LEARN TO SEW III:

Once you complete Learn To Sew II, we will continue to build on and master skills in Learn To Sew III! This class will prepare you for our garment or quilting classes.

Beginner GARMENT Class: 

This is an extension of what was covered in the Learn To Sew Series classes. Jen will help you choose a simple pattern and provide individualized instruction as you advance through your project. Upon completion, Jen will discuss the best next project to achieve your individual sewing goals. This class is ongoing and enrollment is open year-round! You can attend for just 4 weeks or join for multiple months – you decide what works best for you.

Learn To Quilt Series:

In this beginner quilting series, Mrs. Jen will walk you through the basics! 

  • You will be introduced to proper cutting and pinning techniques, how to piece a basic block successfully, how to turn blocks into rows, and ultimately create a quilt top. You will also learn about various basting methods, basic machine quilting, and how to bind your quilt.
  • Individual and group instruction will be provided. Some “homework” may be required in order to complete your quilt by the end of the series.
  • We provide you with a sewing machine but feel free to bring your own.
  • You will also need a rotary cutter, a 6″x 24″ quilting ruler, quilting pins, and a few fabrics. The material list will be emailed prior to class.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to bring my own machine?

We provide students with a sewing machine and equipment to use during class. But, you’re welcome to bring your own, if you’d like!

What class do I take first?

We strongly recommend that students dive into our Learn To Sew Series before joining our garment or quilting classes. Our LTS series is designed to teach the basics of sewing, including how to use a sewing machine, how to properly cut and pin fabric, and how to keep consistent seam allowances. These skills are essential for success in our other classes!
