This rotating six-week class is designed to strengthen your foundational sewing skills by guiding you through a single, wearable project each session. Registration is now open for the March/April session where you’ll make the McCall’s 7931. A midi/maxi skirt that’s not only fun to create but also packed with essential techniques you’ll use time and time again.
Throughout the course, we’ll dive into the core apparel techniques that make garment sewing both rewarding and achievable.
By working with a commercial pattern, you’ll:
- Gain confidence reading pattern instructions
- Understand cutting layouts
- Learn how to handle apparel fabric for optimal results
Learn or build on foundational sewing techniques like:
- Seam finishes
- Pressing for crisp edges
- Constructing details to bring your garment to life
These are skills that you’ll carry over to future sewing projects, whether you’re tackling your own blouse or venturing into more advanced apparel.

March/April Session: Saturdays 9:45am-11:15am | Begins March 8, 2025
In this six-week session, students will create a beautiful midi or maxi skirt using McCall’s 7931 pattern. Along the way, you’ll master essential garment construction techniques, including inserting invisible zippers with confidence, creating smooth waistline facings, and more! This skirt design in available in three lengths and sizes 6-22.
